Wall Hung Toilets

Introduction

Wall hung toilets are very popular now and not as uncommon to find in bathrooms as they used to be. Their distinctive 'floating' appearance makes your bathroom seem more spacious as more of the floor is visible where this is normally hidden underneath pans which sit on the floor. Rest assured of their practicality as they have been around a long time. For us in the UK they may not be as common however in mainland Europe approximately 80% of new installations are wall hung toilets and also you will notice in most hotel bathrooms you will see this version of the toilet.

Wall Hung Toilets in More Depth?

These toilets look very different to the more commonly found close coupled items as they have no visible cistern and as their name implies they do not sit on the floor of the bathroom. They are installed onto a wall hung WC frame which is usually installed into the wall but can also be found in a specially designed unit. The mere look of this type of toilet gives it a truly designer look. The cistern is concealed behind your tiled wall or in a unit and a flush button or plate is located on the wall above the pan, leaving a much cleaner finish. The cistern is usually prefitted into the WC wall hung frame so does not require any extra fitting. A lot of people do ask how much weight the WC can take as it is not sat on the floor, however not to worry most toilets are tested to at least 500kg or 1100 pounds in imperial measurements. If you do have any concerns at all please contact us and we will do our best to help.

So What about Installation?

Any qualified fitter and should have no problem as all fitting such toilets. There is only one small thing to look out for and that is if the frame is to fitted against a brick or stud wall as some frames have extras fixings for stud walls. However not to worry, your fitter will be able to advise or if you wish you can contact us and we will do our best to help. Getting back to the actual installation, they are in many respects easier to fit as you have flexibility with waste pipe and inlet pipe positions as these do not need to be as tidy or exact as they will be hidden from sight in the wall or the unit, whichever is applicable.

How Flushing system works?

Wall hung toilets flush in the same manner as ‘standard’ toilets. The only true difference is that instead of a lever or chain to pull or press, you push a button which is mounted on the wall to trigger the flushing action. Many flush plates also feature dual flush technology, allowing you to use less water in your new toilet. The two buttons in this type of plate will usually either flush 6 litres of 3 litres. The variety of flush plates is also vast with so many designs available to choose from.

Will This Type of Toilet Suit My Bathroom?

Well this is very difficult to answer and is very subjective as there really is no right or wrong answer. Wall hung toilets can suit both modern and traditional toilets and really the style of the toilet rather than whether it is wall hung or floor standing determines which bathroom look the toilet suits. The other aspect which people may consider is maintenance however rest assured there are no issues at all as all parts of the toilet can be got at. What may require service though are the parts of the cistern however these are easily accessible as most large flush plates are easily removable to allow access if this is needed.
